Ascent Trip ReportPrevious directions are all still good. I would suggest parking at Middle Road or perhaps the next higher cleared area at the latest and just walking the last mile or so. The road condition rapidly deteriorates after Middle Road. Each nicer stretch of road is followed by something bad, so don't be lulled into thinking you've finally passed the worst of it. My Subaru Crosstrek was able to make it all the way to the parking area but it was more than I was comfortable with. There are some very rocky stretches that I had to crawl through.
Once at the parking area, the hike is very straightforward. Follow the road until you reach the boundary cut, marked by a yellow post and a small cairn. When I did this hike, there were several large blowdowns just before reaching this point. The boundary cut is easy to follow. The turn off it is marked with a cairn, but even calling it a turn makes it sound more confusing than it really is. Just follow the path of most traffic uphill and you'll be fine. |
