Ascent Trip Report

Started from Lafayette Place Parking at 4:45 AM. Did the counterclockwise version of the Franconia Ridge Loop that starts up on the Falling Waters Trailhead. Beautiful waterfall views and fairly easy terrain for the first 2 miles, with the final mile to Little Haystack proving to be extraordinarily steep. From there it was a combination of light jogging and scramble/exposed scramble along the ridge line for a little over 1.5 miles, touching Lincoln, Truman, and Lafayette peaks all along the way. Started heading back toward the lot via the Old Bridle Trail at this point, passing Greenleaf Hut and Greenleaf Knob with some very sunning views looking back up to the ridge line around the 6.75 mile point of the hike. The first two miles of the descent were marked with steep rock faces that were fun for the knees, to say the least. Finally, the last two miles of the descent were fairly straightforward.
