Ascent of Mount Degenhardt on 2020-06-26
|Date:||Friday, June 26, 2020|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||8000 ft / 2438 m|
Ascent Trip ReportOn day one of our overnight we attempted to also include Degenhardt. So our day was 10.2mi, 6600' gain to camp in 8hrs. Drop bivy stuff and continue to Mount Terror summit. From Mount Terror we descended the West Ridge couloir and then made a rising traverse to the Terror-Degenhardt saddle. In an attempt to onsight the route, we did not find one. We returned the next day and climbed via an onsight of the SE Ridge (5.6) before arriving at the summit and finding the standard route.
The standard route comes from the Mount Terror side, ascending a 4th/low 5th class crack to the NW Ridge. The upper part of the route may look daunting from below, but upon arrival at the tat on the NW Ridge you can step onto the north side 3rd class scramble route. For a competent climber in approach shoes this route would make an easy solo.
My gpx file is partially drawn to show how a traverse from Mount Terror to Mount Degenhardt and back to the Chopping Block camp works. It does not show our route up the SE Ridge as to avoid confusing future climbers.
