Ascent Trip ReportTraversing the Long Trail starting at the Lincoln Gap Trail head. Up to Mount Abraham (1:42), two benchmarks- one labeled Potato Hill; then took side path to see plane crash site- eerie but interesting. Then continued on to the summits of Little Abe (sign) and Lincoln Peak (:30 minutes, sign and viewing platform- nice place to rest). Continued over to Nancy Hanks Peak (sign), then continued over unmarked summits of Castle Rock-Sugarbush, Lynx, and Cutts Peaks. Reached Mount Ellen (1:20 from Lincoln Peak, marked by a rock cairn). Took a lunch break at the ski lift 50 yards past the summit of Mount Ellen. Then headed back to the Lincoln Gap Trail head. Approximately 3:30 each way, total 7 hours, 12.6 miles. Completed the Vermont 5 Challenge for my patch and certificate. Great day of hiking, hot but nice! |
