Ascent Trip ReportEasy parking at the base of the road where it meets Hwy 2. A very long and boring road hike up to the peak. I followed HPS Route #1. I passed the Sheriff Heliport on my left and proceeded through the tree farm toward the large water tower. At the back left corner of the tree farm is a use trail which I took up to the Tower. I circumnavigated the tower. Then this is where I wished that I had read a few recent trip reports about where the register was located. HPS Guide says 50 yards south of tower (though the recent trip reports said it was now moved and only 20 yards away). The entire area is brush and covered with brambles. There are a lot of what appear to be paths that disappear into the brambles. I wandered through and around that area for quite a while, but never found the register. I just got cut-up. Then I thought, why not head for BM 5466 despite not having read up about it all? Looked pretty easy when I briefly looked at everything on Google Earth before the trip. The answer was to get cut up more...
On my way down, I had planned to bushwhack Thorn, but after the trip to BM 5466 and back, I was pretty sick of getting poked by brambles and cut up, so I opted against it. I have no regrets.
