Ascent Trip Report This week Kenobi and I hiked up Murdock Mountain and we got the Wasatch County high point in the Uintas. It was not a particularly difficult hike, just rocky (and there is no trail). For Murdock Mountain you park on the opposite side of the road from Bald Mountain at the pass before descending down toward Mirror Lake. Then, you pick your favorite path to the top of Murdock Mountain. There is a large cairn at the summit with a summit register. The views are best from the east side of the peak, since the top is relatively flat. I walked over to the south east side and saw some very beautiful country! There are also a few rock "recliners" that people have made where you can sit and enjoy the view. From the top, Kenobi and I descended to the south west to get the Wasatch County high point, which is on the flanks of Murdock Mountain. There is a summit register there too. We then picked our way back to the north to the car. Total distance- about 4 miles. Total elevation gain, about 1200 feet.
Kid friendly? Yes, if you have kids who like to scramble up rocks.
Dog friendly? Yes.
Arthritis Ibuprofen rating (one to five scale): This one gets a 1.5 ibuprofen rating - mostly because it is just rocky. However, I could be convinced to lower the rating to a 1, since it really isn't very difficult.
Bottom line- would I do it again? Yes. It is a fairly easy 11k + peak that is not hard to do, and would be a good place to sit and enjoy the sunrise!
