Ascent to North Peak-North Ridge above Upper McCabe Lake on 2010-09-05Date: | Sunday, September 5, 2010 | Ascent Type: | Unsuccessful - Turned Back | Point Reached: | North Peak - North Ridge above Upper McCabe Lake | Location: | USA-California | Elevation: | 11300 ft / 3444 m | Remaining Elevation: | 942 ft / 287 m (44% left to go) |
Ascent Trip ReportThe map looked like we could ascend this one via the north ridge and northwest slopes from Cascade Lake/Secret Lake from 20 Lakes Basin. I probably could have done it solo, but Aidan (age 7) & Ian (age 14) aren't quite up to fourth class traverses yet. We made it up to the pass above Upper McCabe Lake and no further. Since we couldn't summit, we played around along the ridge heading north from here towards Shepherd's Ridge and Secret Lake. Overall, a great day. The easiest route up is via Conness Lakes as a day hike. Camping is prohibited in the Conness Lakes area, which is why we camped above Cascade Lake and tried this route. Oh well, next time... Pics |
