Ascent Trip ReportMy Dad and I decided to try the Log Hollow Road (we were uncertain of snow conditions) as our approach to Salt Creek Peak. The Road was in much poorer condition than when I last drove it a couple years ago. After passing a washed out, gravelly stretch around 8500 feet, we were stopped by a rutted, muddy section at around 8900 feet. From there we turned around and parked at the turn at 8680.
We walked up the Log Hollow Road, which was covered in a large snowbank just before the top (above Cool Spring). From the top of Log Hollow, we followed the Red Cliff Road towards the summit. At times the road was snow covered, and to avoid walking in steep snow, we gained the ridge to the west, which served as a better option.
Views from the summit were great. We stayed for around an hour, taking photos and eating a lunch on the sheltered east side of the summit (it was very windy), before returning via the same route. My guess is that the Log Hollow Road will open pretty soon.
