Ascent Trip ReportLocated northwest of the Mauna Kea Visitor's Information Center, it is a horseshoe-shaped cinder crater cone, open to the south with the highpoint at the northwest side of the rim. The hike up is from the northeast side ...... 1 1/2 mile, 1 1/2 hour RT.
From the Visitor's Information Center on Mauna Kea road, 6 miles up from the saddle road (hwy #200) to the south, walk north up the road .2 miles to the posted Humu'ula Trail on the left. Follow the dirt track generally west .2 miles where the Trail stays/climbs right and the dirt road leads left a short distance to a col, at the northeast side of the crater (.45 miles from the center). Climb to the top from here. There is no defined trail on the moderately steep cone, only evidence of human traffic, make your trail to the rim. The highpoint is to the right. Some sparse vegetation on the slope.
After descending to the Center I went over Pu'u Kalepeamoa. The full details of today's activities are found in the Mauna Kea TR of this date.
