Ascent Trip Report

Time to test out the 2016 Tacoma 4x4 I just bought the day before! I started by driving up Log Hollow. about 1.5 miles before the junction though (i.e., ~6 mi from the highway) I was stopped by a snowbank. There were some tracks through it but it was really deep stuff, I'd definitely need a lift and maybe better tires to have any chance. If I'd brought my shovel I might have been almost to take some time to flatten it out to.

Anyway I wasn't expecting a hike of 11+ miles, so I looked at the map and noticed the road coming from Maple Canyon. I drove around and up the road, but eventually got stopped about 0.6 miles before the junction by even more snow. So I decided to give hiking from there a try.

Three was snow on much of the road but in most places there was a dry spot on the side to walk around it. There were three or four longer parts I had to walk in the snow, as well as two parts I had to walk up on the ridge to avoid the snow. So it was pretty slow and a little annoying. It took about 5 hours RT, about the same in each direction with 15 minutes on the summit. I see references to a register on Peakbagger, but I didn't find one on the summit.

One interesting thing was, a little over a mile from the junction, right before the road turned right and descended (the first long walk thru soft snow), there was an abandoned trailer ... not sure how long it's been there but no one could have driven it up since last fall...
