Ascent of Scrag Mountain on 2020-05-13
|Date:||Wednesday, May 13, 2020|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||2911 ft / 887 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThere's now a good trail from the west, no need to bushwhack or fight blowdown on the old trail. Park at the trailhead at the end of Bowen Rd. Take either the yellow-diamond foot trail or the closed road (they merge) past waterfalls to a beaver pond at 2330'. A much rougher trail (with sparse blue blazes) continues to a saddle and zigzags up to the summit ridge. Pass the warden's cabin which is unlocked and suitable for primitive camping, and continue up to the former tower base. The summit is just to the right and has a glass register jar. A short trail leads straight ahead along the ridge to the south summit, which has an excellent view.
