Ascent Trip Report

It was a gorgeous afternoon for a hike -- sunny, warm, and a light breeze. I parked along the Blue Ridge Parkway at Curry Gap, where a gated forest road leads away from the parkway in both directions. The first part of this hike was the hardest: directly uphill along the southeast ridge of Peak 2540. I more or less followed the ridge crest, more west at first and then more north, to the top. The top is a small, fairly distinct ridgeline marked with rock outcrops. I walked along these and tagged all that had a reasonable chance of being the highpoint, then headed down to the Appalachian Trail, which is only a few meters away to the north. Once on the trail I headed south (generally southwest actually) towards my second goal for the day, Fullhart Knob--East Peak (see separate trip report).
