Ascent Trip ReportThis was very interesting. I had added the highpoint of the large Jefco Park called the "Flying J Ranch" last year and hiked it up in the winter in nasty snow with post-holing and Dave Covill gave me a hard time about been really bored to want to do that but with the COVID virus shutting things down Dave got stir crazy and started hiking the highpoints of many local park lands as well.
Interestingly, he discovered that a tiny tract of land totally discontinuous from the actual ranch is owned by JEFCO and actually is considered part of the this park and it is actually higher than the true ranchland HP so he added it to the database as an alternate open space HP. Ridiculous I cried out!
Off we set to find it. It is in fact nestled in a subdivision surrounded by houses and yes, there are visible JEFCO property boundary sign sometimes readily visible and others quite hard to find verifying this tiny tract is public space. It is actually a sweet little formation worthy of capture. You can class 2 right up to the top or take some rock lines of class 2+ up through 4+ if you like. We scrambled up a section of class 3 and down a section of 2+ and 3. Strangely nice views. And a good 50 foot cliff edge on one end so this "joke" turned out to be a surprising hidden feature that Dave stumbled on.
