Ascent Trip ReportAfter a morning ascent of Kanin, I drove briefly across the border to Italy. The road from Idrsko in the Soca valley to the tiny Italian village of Cepletisch was narrow and badly surfaced, but improved once it joined the road up to Montemaggiore. Continuing up the road I found a large number of cars and buses parked at the mountain hut / restaurant Rifugio Pelizzo. From the parking there are actually 3 routes to the top, one directly ahead and one each to the left and right. I took the direct route, which was well-trodden and busy with day-trippers. This is clearly a popular local beauty spot, and the view from the top confirmed why, after I reached it in a little over 20 minutes. The Friulian plain extends literally from the foot of the mountain all the way to the lagoons of Grado, and even Trieste was visible across the eponymous Gulf.
A quick descent, coffee and a long drive back to Bled completed a very fine day out.
