Ascent of Piney Peak on 2010-08-13
|Date:||Friday, August 13, 2010|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||9000 ft / 2743 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI hiked Piney Peak from the west using several different trails and including ascents of Garns Mtn and Red Butte before ending the day back at the car. The drive in to the trailhead is a long way on a good gravel road. Lots of traffic on the road because it was huckleberry season. Ken Jones wrote a nice TR at http://cohp.org/id/Madison_1.html and I followed his directions for the entire hike. Beautiful day, great views. All hiking stats are combined on this ascent page. There is no trail for the final ascent up the north ridge of Piney, but it is mostly open grassy country up a somewhat steep ridge.
