Ascent Trip ReportA tour of the most easterly Wainwrights, a rarely frequented corner of Lakeland. Wide open spaces and good views of the High Street Group, Harter Fell, Kentmere Pike, the Eden Valley and the Pennines plus a rewarding glimpse of Scafell and Scafell Pike in a gap from Branstree. Not the most aesthetic hills, although Tarn Crag is the best of the bunch, neither Pike is at all 'pikey'. Furthermore the lack of public parking beyond spot height 232 metres on the Swindale minor road makes the route longer than it would otherwise be and the long trawl back from Harrop Pike is over rough and squelchy ground.
Swindale Foot > Swindale Head > Old Corpse Road > Selside Pike > High Howes (Branstree NE Top) > Branstree > Tarn Crag > Grey Crag > Harrop Pike > Mosedale Cottage > Swindale Head > Swindale Foot. 22.2 km / 13.8 miles. 6.5 hours including all stops.
