Ascent Trip Report

Not really that high compared to several other mountains in the area, but a decent hike. This mountain, or at least the side I visited, is part of a preserve owned by The Nature Conservancy. They have a parking area that provides a convenient place to leave a vehicle while hiking here. I climbed High Top on an unseasonably warm Friday 13th. The trail is moderate near the bottom but gets steeper on the upper half. It's well marked and obvious all the way up. Views on the top are spoiled somewhat by the communications antennas, but this time of year, before the leaves are out, there are some nice views along the upper section of the trail. The current high point appears to be a pile of man-made debris, but the natural high point also appears to be in the vegetation nearby. Minor bushwhacking is required to visit the summit(s). The trail continues as a loop over to Woods Mountain on the other side of the "cove" and then back to the parking area, but I just went up High Top and back on this visit.
