Ascent Trip ReportThis was a Southern Arizona Hiking Club climb led by Dave Kohnke and me. We drove in from US Hwy 70 starting on FR 600 following waypoints provided by the club. The road required 4WD with high clearance (I was glad to have my Jeep Rubicon). I can provide a GPS track of the drive in to those interested.
The climb up the NE Ridge from the road was direct to the summit cliffs, where we traversed to the climbers right to find easier access to the summit ridge and a short walk to the summit. There is a summit register near the benchmark.
It is curious that our three GPS units all reported a gain of about 1250 feet, but that seems impossible given the route. Perhaps traversing below the summit cliffs distorted the GPS data. |
