Ascent Trip ReportAll road hike with some dense/short whacks .... total 1.75 miles RT for all areas, allow 2 hours.
There are 7 candidate high point areas for this county and the present 2 TRs are still good, they got me to the areas with no problems. However ground conditions have changed - reason for this TR. Access today to the different areas is easy, but very difficult and impossible to find "the" spot is the brushy/flat areas.
Areas 1 & 6 have nice open forests with some underbrush to deal with and are fairly easy. However Areas 2,3,4&5 are another matter - extremely dense tall brush with vines and thorny stuff but luckily they are just beside the roads requiring little bushwhacking. I was dressed in my bushwhacking gear including my snake chaps. I went to my GPS coordinates/stomped the contour area to my satisfaction and called it good.
Rose and I found our way to the JCT Hwy#53/CR253 and drove west on CR253 for 1.2 miles to a farm house on the right for AREA #7 (30.61178,-83.45521). I went to the house and found no one home so I took the liberty to walk to the rear of the farm at 200 yds for Area #7.
We continued west on CR253 for another .3 miles to a right turn on NW Settlement Road, then north 300+yds to a field entrance on the right. We parked here (30.61364,-83.46065), this was my TH for all of the remaining Areas except #2.
For AREA #2 (3061584,-83.46045) we went north on Old Settlement for another 300+ yds to another field entrance on the right. The high ground is just to the right besides the road. We returned to the fore-noted TH.
From the above TH we first went to AREA #1 (30.61374,-83.46105) 100 yds to the southwest across the road. AREA #3 (30.61389,-83.46010) is here at the TH, the contour spilling north to inside the dense stuff.
From the TH I walked left-of-east on the overgrown track with a good animal path 150 yds to a nice N-S wide dirt road, I turned left and walked this road 125 yds to a T-JCT (30.61529,-83.45885). Half way up this road, 30 yds to the left in dense brush, is AREA #4 (30.61475,-83.45920).
At the T-JCT I turned right (east) on a good road 150 yds to AREA #5 (30.61564,-83.45737)), 30 yds to the left in dense brush.
I continued east another 100 yds to another T-JCT where I went left for 50 yds, turned right (east) on grass road for 150yds where the road turns right for another 150 yds, then left (east) 75 yds to its crest. AREA #6 (30.61430,-83.45358) is 50 yds south in open woods .
I backtracked the 0.6 miles to the TH in 15 minutes.
