|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||4320 ft / 1316 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThe road from 107 up to Rattlesnake Gap was open so I drove up. The road isn't in bad shape and a 2wd car might be able to make it but some ground clearance would be nice. At Rattlesnake Gap, forest road 3242 is gated and heads west. I parked here and walked the road all the way to FS 201, which is also gated. FS 201 heads up the south slope of Round Mtn to the summit. The lookout tower is gone but you can see the four concrete footings among dense, small trees. The concrete stairs are still left from the caretaker's house but there are few signs of the house remaining. There are also two, large diamond shaped concrete objects. I have no idea what those were for..perhaps in-ground anchors for guy lines from the tower. There are two pit toilets up there. One just has the base remaining with no walls while the other is starting to collapse. I continued northeast down to Marrow Gap. There's mountain laurel here to contend with but it's not horrible.
