Ascent Trip Report

Parked at the lift station where Takayama-san got lift tickets for one ride up. We put skins on and set off up the volcano along the southwest ridge. Stopped by the sulphuric vents to get pictures and higher up for the ski crampons. The icy snow was not really covering the rocks so careful climbing was necessary. Further up, we got the skis off and carried them on the packs. Rested at the summit, the highest point on the Hokkaido island. Skied back on the northern side of the mountain, over hard snow, sections of rocky snow and nice fluffy snow fields and with some traversing. Skied the ski slope from the top of the ski lift back to the car. Packed and took off for a long ride through Sapporo to the Kazeru hotel and Onsen. We were late and had to dump the luggage in our room, strip down, get a kimono on and head for dinner. Onsen had to wait to after the dinner.
