Ascent Trip ReportFirst peak of a 9 day Southern Africa trip.
From NW, D Road, good dirt road, easy in SUV, probably ok in standard 2wd. Parked at pass at 1630m (S23.96509° E29.90439°) then track climbing SE, crossing a P95m summit, descending to join forest road from village, passing dilapidated buildings, then Iron Crown trail climbs to R, obscure at first then well defined, summit bouldery but track goes to summit, the highpoint a boulder (S23.99913° E29.94647°, 2124m) 3m S of cylindrical trig pillar.
First peak of trip, left Joburg early pm, started walking about 1730, summit 1915 at dusk, down by torch light, (African Wood Owls calling in forest) finished 2100. With wet forecast tomorrow made sense to bag this in reasonable weather, drive to Lesotho tomorrow with reasonable forecast Monday for Thabana Ntlenyana.
