Ascent Trip ReportRoad was as reported a basic 2 wheel drive road but as a forest road bumpy and potholed. With the ice and snow patches I was happy to get to the trailhead with my 4 wheel truck but this could have been done today with a small AWD SUV safely. In summer a standard car should be find as long as they pick their line carefully and have standard clearance. But in winter I would recommend AWD or 4wheel and some clearance is a plus. There is only room for about 6 cars. The trail is totally doable as a winter hike as it never exceeds class 1 but it is steep in many places. I had micro-spikes and it would have been very dangerous without them as the frequent traffic has compacted the snow into ice. In fact, where the icey conditions existed on a steeper slope my spikes wanted to slide so you had to find the snowier sides for traction.
View is about what one would expect. A bit wooded in places so for a decent prominent peak it does not give a full 360 but definitely a good winter training hike because you get nearly 1000 feet in a little over a mile and the trail is easy to follow and never technical.
On the way down I followed a poorly used trail that seemed to follow the straight line dashed trail shown on the USGS map for awhile but then it looked sketchy so I bushwhacked back to the main trail but that added some unnecessary gain to the total the hike itself should be closer to around 930 feet normally.
