Ascent Trip Report

Access: I placed a pin on the summit in Google Maps and it was able to take me all the way to the summit along paved roads. Upon reaching the summit area I saw a sign saying it was closed from 10 PM to 7 AM and the area was under video surveillance. I arrived at about 7 PM, but it was already dark since it was December. I parked in a wide dirt area along the side of the road to make the quick jaunt up to the tower, but upon returning saw I was actually in a no parking zone. Since this was the only place I saw to park, I am really not sure where visitors are supposed to park. It takes only a few minutes to run up to the summit and back so the chance of a ticket is virtually nonexistent.

The Climb: From where I parked, I just took the stone pathway up to the impressive summit tower, which is lit up at night. I didn't find a benchmark, but there is a plaque on the tower with the elevation and information on the mountain.

My Thoughts: There is nothing particularly impressive about Chenocetah Mountain, but it was along my driving route to Clayton and somehow has the distinction of being a range 5 high point. So, if you are in the area, its a nice easy drive up to pad your stats.

I am always looking for climbing partners, so feel free to contact me if you want to team up.
