Ascent of Jebel Shams on 2019-11-30Date: | Saturday, November 30, 2019 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Jebel Shams | Location: | Oman | Elevation: | 9902 ft / 3018 m |
Ascent Trip ReportI found the far right end of the fence where razor wire prohibits one from hopping around. The cliff drops away for hundreds of meters at this point. I opted not to sneak around the fence. I then followed the fence line towards the gate. As I was following the Fenceline, I saw a brown pick up truck driving inside of the fence. There is actually a part of the fence at the low point that is completely destroyed due to recent flooding I would presume. You could walk right over the fence here. However, since I saw a moving vehicle inside, I did not do this. I also reached the gate which was open and opted not to walk through the open gate to ascend the final 10 m of elevation gain to the summit. The chances of being caught were extremely high because the pick up truck had not yet left the compound. I’m calling it good enough and logging the peak anyway. Feel free to judge. There was nothing technically challenging prohibiting my further ascent, just a chance of imprisonment that would surely get me in trouble at work back in Bahrain. Pics |
