Ascent Trip Report

There has been a lot of road improvements here over the past 5 years. Almost any vehicle can make it now, pending snow and mud season of course. If the chain is across the double bison guard by the gravel N-S county road, please respect the ranchers closure and come again some other time. The amount of closure days per year has been reduced from about 60 to 20 via the improved road. Gravel, roadbase, and recycled crushed concrete have been laid down. It is dangerous to walk in the same pasture as bison. They are nothing at all like cattle. It is 1.3 miles to the highpoint from the county road. Be sure to sign the register which is in the drawer of the black metal draftsmans desk next to the monument. A bench is there facing west to the mountains in CO and WY, with a nice view on a good day. Stop by the ranch complex at the state line and buy some bison brats, burgers, steaks, etc. from them. The Klawonns are wonderful people, please respect the ranch property. Pronounced "Kluh VONN", accent on second syllable. Glen and Jill, son Clay.
