Ascent Trip Report

We took the track up to the lake, leaving Jacob there to read and reflect, while we continued on up a zig-zag path to join the ridge. Avoiding the difficulties of traversing over Frete de Penaille 1892m by a side path, we rejoined the ridge for some distance, before heading up to the summit of Pointe de Couennasse 1980m/55m on a minor path. Continuing along the ridge a short stiff ascent, scrambly in places, brought us onto the summit of Pointe de Marcelly. This provided an excellent view of the Mont Blanc massif.

The trail down the east ridge needed care, due to loose rock. We reached the tree-line, following the trail as it weaved between the trees to a col. I then followed a grassy track down to a road. A tedious hike back to the car followed.
