Ascent Trip Report

GPX file and stats are for my entire round trip.

I had my Uber driver park at Campamento Nevado de Toluca (can be searched on Google) and I arranged in broken Spanish for him to stay for three hours, plus or minus. He agreed to accept cash for waiting and for the trip back to Toluca.

I went to the first saddle above the lakes and turned right. From here I mostly stayed on the ridge proper up and over Pico de Aguila and then to Pico de Fraile (Nevado de Toluca highpoint). From the summit I scrambled down and then jogged over to Pico de Humboldt. The toughest scrambling was coming off of Pico de Aguila (4th class) and Pico de Fraile (Class 3). There was snow and ice in the shade as it snowed a couple weeks ago. Pico de Humboldt was very straightforward, choose any cross-country path you like. Standing on top of Pico de Humboldt at the 2hr 48min mark and having agreed to take only three hours, I ran down the dirt and scree and arrived at the parking lot 11mins later. My driver was still there and I think we both made each other's day, I was happy to not worry about a ride and he was happy to be compensated well.
