Ascent Trip ReportI had plans for a bigger day, other more challenging peaks, however, a late start and short day led me to a climb of markleeville. It was a gorgeous fall day in high sixties. Loki and looking for a nice mountain outing.
We parked a little further south than others, but followed the previous GPS tracks. I missed the 90 turn (south) in the first 1/2 mile, but quickly realized i had gone off course when things were getting really steep in the gully. After correcting south, I found the game trail that looks like it gets some regular use, it was easy to follow all the way up the ridge. If you can't find it, generally stay right up the middle of the ridge. The trail generally follows the spine, just to right of the trees all the way up to 9000ft. Once I gained the first saddle I traversed to the right when I exited the trees. This was helpful as the brush was thinner up to right, so only had to bushwhack for 20-30ft through a gap. The game trail is easy to follow across to the left and all the way to top from there.
Absolutely gorgeous views from the top on a pretty clear day. Many previously climbed peaks were identified from the top. I signed the register. It was pretty cool there was an older register that dated back to 2000 and the original register card placed by Peter Yamagata was still there. Retraced steps to the bottom. Pleasurable day in the mountains.
