Ascent Trip Report

Josh and I parked at the trailhead at the end of Denning Rd. We started hiking at 7:45am and followed the yellow blazed trail until we came to the intersection with the blue blazed trail that heads to Table and Peekamoose mountains. We followed the blue blazed trail until we crossed over the 2 foot bridges crossing the Neversink where we turned left and followed the river. We followed the Neversink until we got to the base of Lone mtn where we angled right and headed up the ridgeline to Lone. This is a bushwack but we did run into a herd trail as we neared the top that took us right to the canister at the peak that we needed to log in at. This was #36 for me, only 3 to go. From here we headed off toward Rocky. For being the shortest of the Catskill 35, this may be my least favorite mountain. The evergreens on the way to Rocky are very dense and you have to fight your way through them which was not enjooyable at all. At some point we came across a herd trail which helped a lot, and took us right to the canister on Rocky. #37 down, only 2 to go. From there we headed down the ridgeline to the Neversink and followed it back to the bridges. The fishermans path that you're supposed to follow along the Neversink is not always obvious but the hiking along the river is flat and not too difficult. We headed back to the parking area on the same trail that we came in on. We travelled 11.6 miles and it took us 6 hours and 55 minutes. It was a nice day but a long tiring hike and I couldn't wait to sit down in the car for the 2 hour drive back to Pa.
