Moving speed: 1.75 mph

Started at the Cherry Canyon TH later than we wanted as we had to stop and take care of Shelly's sick horse first and get gas. My plan was Goat BM, Hob BM, and Middle Ysidro. Hiked over first ridge, then avoiding private property more or less and then over saddle on the South side of the Thimble. From there the rest of hike was visible. Instead on Plan A, we decided to try to traverse across and then up to Middle Ysidro, saving extra gain and distance. This turned out to be tougher than expected with several ravines to traverse and more bushwacking the farther we went. Then one of my new REI carbon fiber poles (3 months old) snapped a few inches above the tip. Guess it couldn't stand up to Anza Borrego! We used my first aid kit to try and repair it which didn't work, then just taped the bottom and continued on, though even more time was lost. When we were nearly to our spot to climb up to the false summit West of Middle Ysidro we realized we would run out of daylight long before finishing. Then had a flashback to our 3000 foot descent down Webo/Ted ridge in the dark in 2017. So since my main objectives were the two SDPC BM's we decided to scrap Middle Ysidro. From this point we were able to sand ski down to HOB BM. On the way to HOB we stopped to climb the class 3/4 mini Thimble. At HOB we found Hub RM1 and Hub RM2, but no Station Mark and no register. Then down to Goat BM where we found Goat Station Mark, RM1, RM2, and register. Then I slightly hyper-extended my knee while jumping around on the boulders at Goat. So we headed back and after crossing over saddle at the Thimble after sunset we went down and we reached the dirt road and it was now dark. So we put on headlamps and decided to take the longer easier dirt road/cherry canyon trail back to the car. What an adventure!
