Ascent Trip ReportAfter successfully negotiating the interesting cliff bands under Crooked Top we were now back on sunnier western slopes and scooted down to the valley with ease (Crow Gulch) and once again crossed FR 101. On the other side where we were on the toe of slope of the eastern ridge we hit snow immediately and put on spikes. The hike was a slog in 2 to 6 inch snow and once on the ridge we headed up a subpeak I just entered into the database for PB called Pike Forest Peak 10099. It is just below a 300 footer but has a nice ponderosa pine approach. The summit only has peak-a-boo views not nearly as interesting as Crooked Top. Then we headed down to the open grassy saddle between peak 10099 and 10120 through some aspen and soon we had a surprise ahead.........a really sexy pinnacle formation along the shoulder of the next peak! |
