Ascent Trip ReportStayed in Big Pine after hiking Telescope Peak the day before. The drive from Big Pine up the parking lot/trailhead is ~1.5hrs. Looking at the map, it didn't seem possible, but the majority of it is on dirt road and slow going.
06:30 - Departed Big Pine
08:00 - Arrived at the trailhead/gate
08:10 - Departed
08:47 - Barcroft research center. The trail continues right past it (dirt road)
09:03 - Rise in the road with clear view of White Maintain in the distance
09:42 - White Mountain Wilderness/Inyo forest sign (on left)
11:03 - Summit (2:57 up). Signed the log book, took a couple of pics.
11:10 - Headed down to the White Mountain Wilderness High Point. This is only ~100 yds down, but tricky climbing on the rocks.
11:15 - White Mountain Wilderness High Point
11:20 - Back on the summit for some lunch and more pics. It's a beautiful, warm, windless day
11:30 - Depart summit. Note: I cut the "corner" on the way down which also eliminated a little elevation gain.
12:17 - White Mountain Wilderness/Inyo forest sign (on right)
13:17 - Summit of Mount Barcroft. Headed right over the top and could see the road in the distance.
14:00 - Back at the trailhead. (2:30 down, including grabbing Barcroft). |
