Ascent Trip Report

The trailhead is clearly marked and begins across from the entrance to the campground. There is space for at least 8 cars to park along the road or the campground entrance. There were 4 cars parked when I arrived.

The trial is easy to follow. It probably took 10-15 minutes each way, maybe less. The trail meanders up through an open deciduous forest. The summit is well-marked with a very large sign and a prominently placed benchmark. There were several other groups on the trail coming and going when I was there. No view from the top.

On the drive up to the campground and trailhead, there is a great viewpoint facing south. Lots of place for parking. The view there is superb. Magazine Mountain deserves a decent amount of respect as a state highpoint. It has over 2,000 feet of prominence, which is pretty obvious as when you are approaching the peak via car, the mountain's height and bulk really stand out. The Ozarks in general appear very pretty and the fall colors were fading but still present.
