Ascent Trip ReportWe hiked in the Schulman bristlecone grove on the way up, then drove out the dirt road to the Barcroft Gate. This road isn't all that crazy, and I think a passenger car that is generally in good shape already (good suspension and tires) could make it up here alright if driven with care. There are no huge boulders in the road or deep ruts or anything like that. The only other car we saw parked at the gate was a Honda CR-V.
The hike itself was every bit as spectacular as I'd imagined it to be, and ultimately easier than the drive getting there. The altitude added some challenge, of course, but we felt fine. We spent an hour and a half on the summit, admiring the amazing views of the Sierras, Telescope, Charleston, Arc Dome and Jefferson. Saw another large herd of bighorn sheep on the way down. I've been eyeing this summit from various angles for years, and I was super stoked to finally get up there!
