Ascent Trip ReportKari and I started the hike about 1.5 miles shy of Columbine Campground, as there was one area of road damage that was significant enough that we didn't want to take our jeep through it. This made our day around 16.5 miles instead of 13.5, and added a few hundred feet of extra gain as well.
Arc Dome is an amazing summit, and has one of my favorite views in Nevada. Jefferson looks a lot more impressive from here than it does from its own base. There are also excellent views of Boundary, Montgomery and White Mountain Peak. The re-ascent to the plateau after descending from the summit is a bit demoralizing, but the scenery all the while more than makes up for it. We went up the Toiyabe Crest Trail (slightly longer) and went down the Stewart Creek Trail, which I thought was much more scenic.
