Ascent Trip Report

Madison was the first peak in a two-day Presidential Traverse that would loop on through Adams, Jefferson, Clay, Washington and down over Ball Crag and Nelson Crag. We wanted to do the trip without a car drop or shuttle trip, which meant starting and finishing at Dolly Copp Campground. We took the Daniel Webster Scout Trail to Osgood junction and then on to the summit via the Osgood Trail. The Webster Scout Trail is a great hike in good weather, with lots of boulder hopping in the steep upper part above treeline. The views up to Osgood Junction are well worth the rock-hopping.
