Ascent Trip Report

I came up FSR 9718 from the junction with Highway 97 about 11 miles north of Klamath Falls. After a little over 1/2 mile the surfacing changes from asphalt to gravel. The road is mostly in good shape. I followed the Daryn Dodge route (7-20-12) up and had to pass by a few old private property signs. The 0.8 mile long summit spur has been recently rocked and is now in better condition than FSR 9718. The summit spur has 11 rubber strips positioned vertically and spanning the full width of the road. They protrude a few inches above the road surface and are easily driven over. These are intended to serve as water diversion structures. I have never seen anything like them before. A 30-foot long very narrow path leads through manzanita brush to the highest rocks. I found a red can/glass jar register but no pencil. The BM is stamped SWANLAKE 1948.
