Ascent Trip Report We started at the Mt Rose trailhead and followed the trail for about 15 minutes. We left the trail once the ridgeline started and followed a use trail all the way to Tamarack Peak. The summit has rebar stuck into it. The views of Tahoe are best a couple of hundred feet before the summit. After summitting we kept going straight past towards Frog Lake. The off-trail portion here was kinda overgrown and loose dirt. Frog Lake was full of tadpoles! We took the trail down past the waterfall, collected water, and followed the Mt Rose trail most of the way up. We left the Mt Rose trail a little after 10,400 feet and stayed on the ridgeline the whole way to Church Peak. There was only one or two class 3 sections that were relatively easy. Lots of wind up here and we definitely needed several layers of clothing this time of year. It's best to stay on the ridgeline the whole way to the Peak and back to the trail. The peak is obvious once you are up there, but there are a few short false summits first. There was a wind block made near the top but not a summit register. Amazing views of Truckee, Reno, Lassen and further. We returned the same way we came. Down the trail a ways we refilled water a the waterfall again and took the TRT back to the car. Sunset was beautiful during the last 20 minutes of the hike and the views along the trail were perfect. We would have needed to use the headlamps if we were 10 minutes later. Very fun 8 hour day over two 3k summits.
