Ascent Trip Report

Part of a Jagged Globe/Andeanface trip to the mountains of Ecuador. A rewarding mixture of rocky and glaciated peaks in this beautiful and friendly country.

Took the TeleferiQo to the upper station (3,947 m) and from there an interesting walk through the paramo, to the rocky peak where steeper terrain and a few sections of scrambling lead to the top. Rather misty, a brief hailstorm on the way up and a northern crested caracara on the summit.

A full traverse of the Pichinchi volcanoes seems popular (and is signposted regularly) and Guagua Pichinchi is the higher and more challenging peak, but a great environment to be in and of course useful acclimatisation for later hills.
Summary Total Data
