Ascent Trip Report

Climbing in Taiwan is a challenge for foreigners. This peak requires a police permit and a hut reservation if done as an overnight. Very long day hike. There are ways to apply ahead of time for the police permit. I just showed up and got one in 10 minutes in Jiaping. I didn’t figure out how to get a hut reservation but Yogi’d a spot. Also possible to stealth camp but very few spots are big enough for a tent.

I rode bitch on the back of a moped to the trailhead. Also possible to hitchhike in a car in mornings. Best to have your own car though. The trail starts at 1100m. At 1500m is the permit inspection that is manned from 8 am-4 pm? At 2200m is the cedar hut that also has tents. Most people get up to summit early on second day. My summit day was 13h, but much of that was a slow person in our group.
