Ascent of Big Southern Butte on 2019-10-17
|Date:||Thursday, October 17, 2019|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
|Peak:||Big Southern Butte|
| Elevation:||7560 ft / 2304 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI walked up from the gate but the road was much better than I expected. It is certainly steep in places but is regularly graded, has some distributed rubble but no big boulders or ledges, and is mostly wide enough to work around oncoming vehicles. My F150 with camper would have been fine in 4WD low range. There is plenty of parking on top (with stone wall and fireplace), the summit would make a scenic camp. GPS says 6.7 miles round trip with 2,694' total gain.
