Ascent Trip ReportDriving Directions to Blue Mountain (Fremont NF):
0.0 From OR Highway 140 west of Lakeview at virtual MP 73.8, Turn East on FR 3870.
5.0 Turn Left onto FR 3724.
6.9 Turn Left onto narrow FR 165. Marked FR 163 lies 0.1 mile further on FR 3724.
7.0 I parked beside the road out of view. The summit of Blue Mountain was visible to the west between trees.
Hiking Route:
From my vehicle I generally followed Steve Fountain’s route of 2017-08-11, except that I climbed a class 3/4 route up the summit block on its south side. I descended the easier west side but found the brush deeper there as I traversed back to the east.
