Ascent Trip Report

Welch-Dickey (typical loop), but added in the bushwhack to the Thornton Town HP.

10:00 - Parked on the road because the parking lot is full (very busy day). The leaves are perfect and the weather was nice. There are 100+ cars here today.
10:10 - Walked the road up the parking lot. There were WMNF rangers there who said we needed to put our National Park pass on the dashboard of the car. Jim walked back to the car while we waited.
10:25 - We finally start hiking. We take a few pictures on the ascent. There is no rush as there are lots of people on the trail anyway.
11:40 - Welch summit. Quick snacks and drinks. ~20 mins.
12:00 - Depart the summit and head to Dickey
12:15 - Dickey summit. Quick pics and move on.
12:30 - I leave the group and bushwhack over to the Thornton Town HP. It's easy walking with lots of open granite. I choose the HP and take a quick pic then bushwhack back over to the trail.
14:40 - After a number of food breaks and lots of pictures, we arrive back at the parking lot and then walk the ~1/4 mile down the road to our car. We head to the Irish bar for some beers!
