Ascent Trip Report

Hike from Fifth Peak
When my GPS indicated 4 miles traveled I was expecting to be close if not on French Point Peak (1.4 miles) instead we were climbing down a steep trail and coming to the realization that this was not a ridge that we were hiking and the distances were in some way messed up. We both were applauding the fact that we were hiking a loop and would not have to return up this section of trail. Reaching the second summit at 1:40 PM having traveled 4.81 miles and having gained 2389'. This was a shorter peak than the last but we had gained 900' to get here. Resting here briefly and speaking to a young party of about 5 hikers (they were doing an out and back) we realized that we were short on time and needed to start thinking seriously about continuing to move if we hoped to make it back to the car.
I had suggested to Matt that, we hit the third peak and then turn around and do the out and back, about 10.5 miles instead of the 13.1 but after the steep decent we had quickly given up on that idea.
