Ascent Trip ReportTook Dawn Mine trail to Tom Sloane Saddle, cutting over to Brown Mountain from there. Had a great time with this to Brown. Trail from the saddle to Brown summit was faint, but not too hard to follow and not too overgrown. Felt like really fun, steep, ridge traversing with a bit of optional rock scrambling thrown in. Continued along the ridge to join up with the trail by the water tower (Ken Burton to Fern Truck). That 2.5 miles or so was horrible. Super overgrown and hard to follow trail covered in thorn bushes of all shapes and sizes. Sections of very steep loose rock / dirt bordered by more thorn bushes if you make a misstep. Pants definitely required (I had shorts), and I'm unlikely to ever do that section again. Probably worse going up this section than down. At least going down you have a better vantage point to keep track of where you should be going.
