Ascent Trip ReportErebus was part of the LG 12ster challenge. There is no path up Erebus so "officially" you only need to make it to the high point of the north trail as I understand it. Once we made it to the spot, we decided to bushwack to the peak. There are some pink ribbons tied to branches noting the entry point for the bushwack and periodically you will see pink ribbons on the trail path up. However they are infrequent and often you are hiking without the guidance. The All Trails app was very helpful to keep us moving in the right direction.
Kaleigh, Megan and I bushwacked to the peak while the others watched packs back at the trail. It took us about 20 minutes to make it to the peak. The peak is noted by a cairn with a canteen. There was lots of black bear poop we encountered on the way down, good thing we didn't see any bears. |
