Ascent Trip Report

Final highpoint of the trip. Traverse from Matterhorn was easy yet tons of fun. The views the entire time was exemplary. If wanting to grab both Matterhorn and Sacajawea, I'd suggest an out-and-back from Hurricane Creek TH for a decent day but a thru-hike to Wallowa Lake would be more pleasurable simply because the views change. The nearly 10 miles of gentle down trail would be easier on the joints than the hearty downhill into Throp Creek. I'd actually say comparable times for the trips since one can get some more speed on gentle downhill than steep stone slathered with scree. Our trip also included Eagle Cap and a single overnight. 42-44 miles, 10,500-11,000' gain. Gentle trail for most of the trip.
