Ascent Trip ReportAccess Notes: The trailhead is at Dick's Creek Gap Recreation Area, 16 miles west of Clayton, GA on Hwy 76 where US 76 intersects with the AT. From Dick’s Creek Gap, hike the AT for 1.18 miles until the approach distance to the summit closes to about 197 meters. This occurs at coordinates N34.91253° W83.60208°. At this point start the short off-trail hike to the summit.
The easiest approach is to attack the ridge and then make a left turn towards the summit which is what I did. The summit is dense and small with enough of a clearing on the flat to make deployment of the 40 foot end fed trail friendly half wave antenna easy. I made a total of twenty contacts on 4 bands (20m, 30m, 40m, and 60m).
