Ascent Trip ReportFrom Saddlebag Lake trail head, we went up to White Mountain first then traversed the ridge north bound to reach summit of Mount Conness. On descent, we headed back to Saddlebag Lake by climbing down a different chute much closer to Conness than the chute that we used to come up to White Mountain. I would rate the whole route Class 2 except a slightly exposed move near the summit of Conness. The descent through the chute could be debated whether it should be Class 3 as the loose rocks and send made the footing quite unstable. Indeed a steep chute with loose rocks and sand is often more challenging than an exposed move on granite with solid hand holds. In this particular case, I do think the descent route was more challenging than the crust move near the summit.
This happened to be Father's Day in Chinese language tradition (the pronunciation of 8-8 in Mandarin Chinese, Ba-Ba, is the same how one calls his father) so we were happy to give ourselves this happy Father's Day gift.
